Catholic Workers Movement (CWM) Uganda is a Lay Apostolate Movement under the Catholic church in Uganda with a mission to encourage the members to take collective action towards social change using the principles of the Catholic Church. It intends to achieve a society free from social injustice as its vission through its core values which are; Sprituality, Advocacy, Team work and Social econoimic sustainability.
With support from Bischöfliches Hilfswerk Misereor e. V. (the German Catholic Bishops’ Organization for Development Cooperation), CWM- Uganda is implementing cwm-uganda youth skilling project in two dioceses Masaka and Kampala with an overall goal to Supporting school dropouts and young mothers start an employment and generate income to sustain their livelihood
The project is in the following base groups of Masaka diocese that is Matale, Bisanje, Kimanya, Ssaza, Kitovu, Bukulula and Butende. Mbuya, and Kampala archdiocese Nsambya, Kajjansi and Lufuuka base group.
The project builds confidence among youth, improve self-esteem and supports youth to develop strategies on how to achieve or realize their set individual or group goals through peer counselling sessions guided by their mentors and the platform is used for impact employable skills. Apprenticeship program youth acquire technical skills from the competent and assessed local artisans who are progressing well in the same trade/ enterprise
CWM was started in 1995 with support from Werner Reiter and some active members of the Diocese of Regensburg in Germany. It was first introduced in the Diocese of Masaka, then Kampala, Kiyinda-Mityana, Jinja, and Hoima.
